Spotlight on Service: Friends in Deed!

At Pasadena Presbyterian Church, we aim to be a "sacred space for the city," and for that reason, we desire to learn about opportunities for service in Pasadena and to support and celebrate what non-profits, ministries, and charities are doing right in our midst.

And so. . . this week we honor Friends in Deed!

Friends in Deed is an Ecumenical Council of Pasadena-Area Churches, and we are grateful for the many services they provide to our larger community. Friends in Deed exists to serve homeless and low-income individuals and families, and they provide several important services to hundreds of people each week.

The Food Pantry is open on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 10am-3pm, and according to their website, "the only requirements for receiving food are identification for each member of the family and proof of low-income status."

The Bad Weather Shelter is open every night in January-February and is weather activated from Thanksgiving-December and March 1-15, opening when there is rain or when the temperature is below 40 degrees. The Bad Weather Shelter provides a hot meal and a safe place to stay the night.

The Women's Room is open to all women who are homeless or who are at risk of being homeless. The room provides a space for women to gather, form community, and find support. The Women's Room is open on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 1-4pm and Tuesdays from 9am-12noon. The website mentions that "a free telephone, computer, TV, magazines, games and prizes, and a place to nap are available."

We are so grateful for all that Friends in Deed is doing!
