A Call For Prayer: Natural Disaster in Indonesia

This week, people living in Indonesia are facing a crisis as Mount Merapi erratically erupts. Mount Merapi means "fire mountain" and has been spewing searing gas and ash since October 26th. Only hours ago a great eruption occurred, sending gas and ash down the mountain and destroying a village. A three year old girl died along with 53 others, and many more were injured with severe burns.

The greatest fear in the nation is that the new lava in the volcano may cause the crater to collapse, sending 1,800 degree ash and gas down the mountain at 60 miles per hour. More than 75,000 people live along the slopes of Mount Merapi, but they have been evacuated to emergency shelters. In concern for their homes, however, some have returned to view the damage.

Nearly 100 people have died since the eruptions began on October 26th, and thousands are currently displaced from their homes.

Let's pray for the people of Indonesia that they may be housed, healed, and aided. And let's pray this prayer as well. . .

Loving God, help us be a part of the very prayers we make.

Here are some organizations that are working to assist Indonesia. Please visit their websites and pray for their efforts:
