Prayers for Coptic Christians

Religious tensions have been high this week after a bombing killed 22 worshipers inside The Church of the Two Saints in Alexandria, Egypt on New Year's Day. Many more were injured in the attack. Coptic Christians make up about 10% of Egypt's population, and many feel that they have been discriminated against politically as well. The recent attack brought many Christians to the streets to protest, and many Muslims also protested in solidarity with them.

Let's give thanks for the solidarity of these Muslim brothers and sisters, and let's continue to pray that Christians and Muslims may work together for peace in Egypt and in other parts of the world.

Here is a news story discussing the recent attack: Bombing of Coptic Church Raises Fears in Egypt.

Let's pray this prayer as well:

Loving God, help us to be a part of the very prayers we make.

Los Angeles has a diocese of the Coptic Orthodox Church. If you would like to send a note of concern and encouragement, you can do so here. And if you would like to learn more about Coptic Orthodox Christianity, you can visit the homepage for the diocese.
