Help For Parents!

NPR ran two interesting stories on Morning Edition about parenting today. Both stories dealt with the importance of fostering an atmosphere where children can learn self-control.

Have you ever had trouble getting your child to eat his vegetables? Have you ever been at a loss to motivate your child drink her milk? Is your child a picky eater? "To Win Toddler Food Battles, Try Softer Approach" by Sarah Varney consults experts to help wean her son away from his "I only want macaroni" diet.

Self-control is important as children grow and develop. Psychological studies are demonstrating that self-control and a sense of delayed-gratification are important tools that help us accomplish goals and socialize well with others. "For Kids, Self-Control Factors Into Future Success" by Nancy Shute discusses these ideas.

At PPC, we can also provide support for parents of young children and adolescents. Parents need rest and a place where they and their children are accepted and fully welcomed. Let's continue to pray for parents and children who are a part of our congregation.
