Young Adults in the News!

Today we would like to offer some recent news stories that concern young adults in our nation and the world. Do you have any thoughts on these articles?

1. Have you been curious as to how the Affordable Care Act affects the health insurance of young adults? You may be aware that young adults can now stay on the insurance plans of their parents through age 26. "House Calls Member Q&A: Healthcare Coverage For Young Adults" written by Dr. L. Toni Lewis addresses some questions concerning this new provision.

2. We are frequently hearing news stories these days about unemployment. How are young adults affected by our current economic climate? "National Effort Needed to Get Young Americans on Path to Employability, Study Says" mentions that only 30% of young adults earn a bachelor's degree by age 27. The article highlights The Pathways to Prosperity Project at the Harvard Graduate School of Education.

3. We are always disheartened, afraid, and saddened when we hear about violence on college campuses. A controversial piece of legislation is being debated in Texas that would the remove current bans that prohibit concealed weapons from being carried on college campuses. NPR's story "Texas Lawmakers Aim for Guns on College Campuses" discusses the debate.

4. We are also hearing many news stories about the political unrest and protests that are happening daily in Egypt. How are young adults involved in these protests? Some young adults are active leaders in the protest movements. NPR's story "Youth Leaders May Keep Egyptian Protests Going" highlights the perspective of some Egyptian young adults.
